Goodbye summer, hello spoon

After some weeks of Anna staring longingly at our cereal bowls, we decided to mark our Labour Day weekend in Penticton with her first taste of solid food. Apparently rice cereal and breastmilk is a winning combination. I may end up eating these words, but I'm happy to report that Anna has inherited her mother's appetite.

Mike and I were pretty worn out from a busy month of August, so the thought of a relaxing weekend in the sunny Okanagan filled us with delight. Anna had recently fallen into a pretty consistent habit of sleeping 11-12 hours straight through the night at home, so the outlook was good... or so we thought. Ahhh, parenthood. Lesson #1: never count on anything; Lesson #2: caffeine is your friend.

We had a special visit with Anna's Great Grandpa Wenger and had fun raiding Grandma Suzanne and Grandpa Doug's garden. The weekend was also marked by some "language" development, with Anna suddenly contracting a smoker's hack and practising a loud screech - two sounds that she somehow finds appealing. Must be something in the water.
