Mum's little helper?

Now that Anna is getting up there in age, her toys just don't seem to hold the same appeal that they used to... not to say she doesn't like them, but "new" things are oh so exciting. Like a dirty sock, for example. Or the bag of flour on the bottom shelf that she has discovered. I've learned to introduce new things as required - why waste the surprise of a new piece of tupperware?

First signs of winter

We drove to Penticton this past weekend to surprise Grandma Suzanne for her 65th birthday, and on the way home encountered snow in Manning Park. Won't be long until we all dig our hats and mitts out... let it snow!

Pillar of strength

"It goes by so fast..." That's what everyone tells you when you have a baby. And they are right. It is amazing how quickly Anna has turned into a dextrous and mobile machine. The hands were the first big discovery, of course, and then it was the feet. By the end of July she was doing triangle pose (on her back, but still... I would kill for that kind of flexibility!). Nothing like toes to provide entertainment when other toys are lacking!

Learning to flip from her back to her front opened up a whole new world of possibilities. By mid-August, she had the superbaby pose mastered, and by the end of the month (5 1/2 months old) she had figured out how to get up on her hands and knees. After many rocks back and forth, she decided that dropping down on her belly and using her hands to swivel and pull herself forward was the only way she was getting anywhere. That started in late September/early October. By the end of October (7 1/2 months) Anna was crawling on hands and knees and she is getting faster by the day (much to the chagrin of her proud parents).

At five and a half months she was able to sit propped up on her hands. A few weeks later she was hands-free, and by the beginning of November she could transition from crawling to sitting on her own. All I know is that my hip flexors seize up in a matter of seconds when I sit with my legs out like that.

Of course, the latest and greatest is standing. Ever since she was about four months old she liked standing on your lap with some help. By the end of October, she figured out how to do it all by herself (and "naptime" has not been the same since!!). First it was just to her knees, then a week later it was all the way up. The crib mattress went from top to bottom position in a matter of 3 weeks. Now that she is eight months old, she is an old pro. Who needs to hold on with two hands when there is so much to explore?
