Eastern Canada Tour 2007

The much anticipated baby tour happened over 3 weeks in July, with stops in Montreal, the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Ottawa, Wooler and Toronto. As the sun finally started shining brightly in Vancouver, we hopped on a plane. Luckily, it was well worth it.

First stop: Montreal, where Grandad Rick and Granny Frannie greeted us with gusto. Anna got her first taste of the Montreal Jazz Festival and had the honour of meeting Isabelle, a very good friend of her Great Granny Margie.

Next stop: Lake Memphremagog, for the first annual union of the fifth generation! Anna met her third cousin Samantha and members of the Jacobi clan, her new friend Julia and the rest of the Montgomery family, the Beatties and many other friends down at the lake. We had fun comparing notes with Sam's parents Jarrod and Stephanie (technically Anna's second cousins once removed, but somehow "Aunt Steph" and "Uncle Jarrod" sound much more appropriate) and Julia's parents Kate and Gino. The girls were born within about a month of each other and we hope they will have as much fun building tree forts, putting on plays and skinny-dipping (no boys allowed) as we did growing up. In true Jacobi fashion we were well taken care of and enjoyed some great lake time thanks to Judi and Tiger. As Dad would say, it was "great to be back!"

After just over a week in Quebec, we continued on to Ottawa where Anna donned her Lawrence of Arabia outfit to shield her from the harsh Ontario sun. Funny things happen when you forget to bring along a hat. We stayed at Hotel Robertson where we lounged poolside, savoured delicious food, and took advantage of expert babysitting services, thanks to Margie, Cam and Grannie Rae.

Anna chose the Robertson's backyard for her debut of the back-to-front roll-over manoeuver. A prime location indeed. Other highlights of our stay were the brief reunion of 546 Johnson St. (aka Amy, Steph and Meg); introducing Anna to Steph for the first time; dining with old Ottawa friends the McLeods, Sonnens and Diane; and pointing out every single childhood landmark to Mike for approximately the 11th time.

The train brought us to Wooler to visit Anna Sr. and Fred for a very short but relaxing visit. Great food, great wine and wonderful company. Enough said.

Final stop: T.O., where we had fun hanging out with Grannie Rae and visiting many friends and family, including Lee Ann and Ken Carver (meeting little Rod for the first time), Kris and Kate and the "Twinnanens", a very pregnant ctrotter, the Browns, Great-Aunt Nancy and Great-Uncle Pete Sladen, and "Step-Aunt" Alex. GRae's new kitchen sink doubled as a soaker tub and Anna got a taste of high-rise condo living in the big smoke.
